The Beauty of Spontaneity
I am well aware of the fact that I have had amazing and unique opportunities in my life. I am really lucky, even a privileged person. I supposed I have done my part, but I don't take things for granted. Yesterday, we decided to make more progress on our trip. But nothing we did yesterday was planned. On our way to Lake Tahoe on Thursday, we passed by a place called Squaw Valley, were the VII winter olympics took place. In the morning, before leaving, Ben did some research and we decided to go to Park City, were the winter olympics in 2002 took place. Ben had competed there and he knew that there was a museum and he found out that they had guided tours to the ski jumps and slopes. We left a little early in order to make it to the guided tour at 3 pm. The road was full of landscapes that took your breath away. But there was something we did not take into account: time change. I was already very excited about the tour, but the closer we got the more I accepted we were not going to make it. We finally got there at exactly 3pm. We ran out of the car and we were told that there were no guided tours because there was a competition happening. If we wanted we could take the shuttle up to the women starting point. It was going to leave in 10 minutes. We ran back to the car to get gloves, hats and extra pairs of sucks. We took the shuttle. On the way I learned that it was the Luge World Cup. I was definitely excited. Since I remember I have always liked sports, although I have to admit that I don't know much about winter sports. The first time I skied I was 17 years old. I still can't believe that I had the chance to see athletes from all over the world (Austria, Russia, Switzerland, Canada, USA...) competing in a world cup. We got to the starting point and walked our way down stopping at every curve to see the athletes compete. Almost nobody was there, which made the experience a lot more exciting. When the competition was over we went to see the ski jumps and there was a national team training.
None of this was planned and so far it has been the best experience of the trip. Yes, the beauty of spontaneity spices live up.
